Bulletin Boards
I created this bulletin board during my first student teaching placement. I chose to do this because I wanted the students to have something bright and colorful to look at in the hallway as they passed it.
I created this bulletin board during my student teaching experience at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Over the course of a month, the preschool students worked on science, literacy and art activities and I used them to create this interactive bulletin board for their classroom. The staff, parents and students really enjoyed looking at this board.
Let's Recycle: A High School Workshop
Let's Go On A Safari!
During my student teaching experience at Lehigh Carbon Community College, I created a dramatic play prop box for the preschool classroom. This prop box corresponded to the classroom theme. Included are handmade cameras, binoculars, safari vests, hats and safari animal pictures that could stand up and be placed around the room. The students really enjoyed using this prop box for dramatic play and it provided them with a collaborative play environment.
Let's Make A Dollar!
I made this poster during my first student teaching placement. The students were learning how to make a dollar with specific coins and this chart was a reminder for them.
Spelling Centers
In this picture, these are the materials that I use during the spelling centers. There is a Chunk Word Station where students need to use the letter tiles to spell their spelling words correctly and then write it down on a piece of lined paper for me to collect at the end and check their work. There is a Foam Letter Station where students practice spelling their words with the foam letters. There is a Making Sentences Station where students each have their own bag of tiles and they must spell the word to complete the sentence. Finally, there is a Textile Cards Station where the students close their eyes and try to guess the word by running their fingers over the textured letter cards. The students really enjoy working at these centers.
What Should You Do?
During the special education professional semester, I created a social scenario game for the students to play. There were split up into 2 teams and they each had a stack of scenarios and an answer card. They worked together to come up with the answers and then we went over all of them as a whole class. This helped the students who struggled with socializing and making friends. They really enjoyed this game.
Are You Listening?
During the special education professional semester, I created a listening game to do with the students. Many of the students in my class struggled with following directions. So I created a game for them to play so they can learn how important following directions and listening are, in a fun and entertaining way. I read them a story and told them to move to certain squares. If they listened, they ended the story with a picture. They enjoyed this game.
WIN (What I Need) Stations
During my second student teaching placement in a kindergarten classroom, I planned and implemented WIN time stations for students. During this particular week, the theme for WIN was Spring/Easter. The students had to unscramble the words on the pieces of candy to create a real word from their word wall. They had to pick three letters from three different baskets and identify if they made a real word or a silly word. Finally, during kidwriting they had a prompt about the Easter Bunny that they could write about.
Here is another WIN Time station that I planned and implemented. During this week, the theme was still spring with different games and prompts. For kidwriting, the students created their own acrostic poems using the word spring. They played a Word Wall Bingo game that I created for them and used already pre-made games. Feed the frog is a game where students need to decide if it is a real word or silly word. If it is a real word, they keep it. If it is a silly word, they feed the frog. Finally the last game they played was a partner game. This was call word wheel. They took turns spinning the wheel and reading the words. They really enjoyed working at these stations.
All About Addition!
During my second placement of student teaching in a kindergarten classroom, we focused on addition and writing addition sentences for two weeks. Here are some examples of the tools and manipulatives that I have use throughout those weeks.
Inchworm Measuring
The students have been working on measuring for 2 weeks prior to this lesson. During this lesson, the students each got their own inchworm rulers. They had two pages of pictures to measure and a recording sheet. We worked together as a whole class to measure each item individually. They measured the line next the item and wrote down the number of inchworms on the recording sheet. They really enjoyed using the ruler and having a sense of independence of measuring the items on their own.
Good Morning, Little Polar Bear
This is concept map that I completed with the kindergarten students during the afternoon. After we read the story, Good Morning Little Polar Bear, the students and I looked through the book again and named all of the arctic animals in the story. On the very last page of the book, there was an information page. On this page there was a paragraph about each animal in the story. So I read the facts to the students and together they picked one fact that they liked the most about that animal and helped me write the sentences on the board. This what the afternoon class came up with. The following day, the students created their very own arctic animal fact book using the concept map that they created.
Here is the morning class's concept map. It was interesting to see how many facts were the same and different between each class.
